Linden Lane is named for the more than sixty linden trees that line both sides of the lane that runs through the farm. The linden trees were imported from Europe and planted along the lane in the 1930’s. In recent decades, some linden trees have been replaced. Historians believe the lane may have been first used by Monacan Indians before the arrival of the first European settlers. The original Georgian revival brick house was constructed in 1912. (ADDRESS IS 100 LINDEN LANE FARM, JUST OFF ROUTE 231, KESWICK)
Today the farm is home to internationally acclaimed U.S. Equestrian dressage rider Elizabeth Lewis Page and her prize horse “Da Vinci.”
Mrs. Page was selected as the alternate team member for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and excelled at the 1974 World Dressage Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. The tour will demonstrate dressage training in a large 20 x 60 meter (66 feet by 198 feet) barn built for this sport. Dressage is often described as “ballet for horses”- the highest practiced precision art and partnership between horse and rider. The demonstrations will be performed by a protégé of Mrs. Page at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
